Below is a list of my stock of old secondhand and antiquarian books on Guyana and Suriname, formerly made up of British Guiana and French Guiana, for sale.

On this page I list my stock of books on British Guiana, now Guyana, Dutch Guiana, now Suriname and French Guiana.  There are some fine books on the Guianas, the works by Schomburgk and Stedman being the most well known.

Demerara: Printed by A. Stevenson, at the Guiana Chronicle Office, Georgetown (1824)
[iv] + 240pp. 1st ed., 8vo. Contemporary half calf with marbled boards. Some light foxing but mostly very clean. Former owner's name, 'Wm Bruce Ferguson Demerary 24th June 1824' inscribed on title page.
The 1823 Demerara slave revolt was a co-ordinated uprising of slaves on 50 plantations between Georgetown and Mahaica caused by unrest over harsh treatment and a rumour that a law emancipating the slaves had been passed but not implemented. Martial Law was imposed and after three days the rebellion was put down with the loss of some 800 slaves. This work records the subsequent trials of slaves with transcripts of the evidence. Prisoners were allowed to conduct their own defenses which makes very interesting reading. The work ends with a three page index of sentences carried out.
