The author fought in the Franco Prussian war and died at the battle of Sedan.

1805 (20 Dec) EL from Brigadier General Thomas Picton in London to General Maitland, Governor of Grenada. Carried 'by favour' by an army captain travelling to Barbados on H.M.S. Illustrious and then put in the post. Fine s/l 'BARBADOES,' rated 4d. Fine. 3pp letter. Picton who had been the first governor of Trinidad was then in London facing charges of cruelty and torture of a free mulatto girl, Luisa Calderón committed while in office.

The Author's unpublished original manuscript. 1959 173pp + photographs. Typed manuscript with some manuscript corrections crudely bound in card covers. The author, who died in 1970, wrote three works on South African military history and was a regular contributor to the Society for Army Historical Research. There are chapters on each of the islands, campaigns in which the West India Regiment took part and British Garrisons stationed on the islands.
