1805 - (20 May) EL from Fort Charlotte, St Vincent to Lieut. Robert Mc Pherson, 17th Native Infantry, Bengal.
Apparently carried privately to Perth, Scotland where posted to India with PERTH ds, Edinburgh Bishop Mark and London PAID ds. Worn at folds and with hole at lower left corner.Fascinating contents, a letter from Thomas McGreggor who was with the 90th Regiment to his friend in India describing his time in Ireland and abrupt departure for the West Indies. He spent weeks aboard the transport in Barbados due to French fleet being in the vicinity and then arrived in St Vincent. He was very unhappy stationed high up in the Fort and with fellow officers and men already falling sick. 'Since I came here I have had a continued fit of the Blue Devils.' In the first year of its service in the West Indies the regiment lost eight officers and 136 men but remained as the garrison on the island till 1809.
