The author was a chaplain with the British navy at the time of the occurrence of the events described. Rare. Note this edition does not include the full page acquatint plates. It is printed in a smaller size font and has much smaller margins than the other edition.

Much on the emancipation of the slaves in Guadeloupe and other French colonies in the Caribbean but also considers the effects in the English and Dutch islands.

1845 (26 Dec) boxed COLONIES &c ART 12 boxed mark on EL from Pointe A Pitre, Guadeloupe to France with Pointe A Pitre and Basseterre cds's and Angl Calais French entry mark. Endorsed 'Voir d'Angleterre.' The convention requiring the use of Article 12 for unpaid letters "From other Colonies and Countries beyond sea" for France went into effect on June 1, 1843.
