Small mourning envelope to Thomas Warr on H.M.S. Alert, a wooden screw sloop, franked 6d, the special officers rate. London cds b/stamp. Fine.
The ships log gives her location as Tabago, Panama Bay throughout January and February. This letter probably travelled per RMS Colon and then by rail across the Isthus.

GB 3d plate 16 tied by fine BATH duplex. San Francisco Paid All cds in red at left and Liverpool cds b/stamp. Addressed to Commander Cookson, H.M.S. Peterel, care of British Consul, San Francisco. Fine.
When this letter reached San Francisco HMS Peterel was at Acapulco, Mexico and then 3 days later left for Panama. The consul, who was also the British Post Office Agent would have forwarded the letter per closed bag to Panama. Ex Harper.
