Barbados philately is currently one of the most popular areas in the West Indies. There is not much pre stamp postal history available but the large range of classic issues more than make up for this. A collection of classic Barbados stamps can be stunning.
Collecting the Parish postmarks of Barbados is a challenge especially the early numeral cancels.
For those collecting Barbados stamps I can recommend Edmund Bayley, Stamps of Barbados handbook which I have available. Barbados Post Office Markings to 1981 by Clarke, Radford and Cave is a must for postmark collectors.
Post and packing is extra but does not increase however many items are ordered. Inland £1, Europe £1.50 and Overseas £2
;) | 1752 (25 Jun) EL from Simon Hunter in Barbados to James Smith in Edinburgh, redirected to Cupar Angus with London Bishop mark. Rated 7d & 10d both deleted and finally 3d (for the redirection fee from Edinburgh to Cupar Angus). Long letter about D. Henry Smith, a young man who arrived in Barbados a year before and has struggled to make ends meet. An early letter from the island. | £240.00 |
;) | 1757 EL from Henry Smith in Barbados to Edinburgh carried privately. Annotation in the contents, 'Care of Mr Wills Bridgetown - Richard Scot at London will forward your letter if you'll be so kind as et me hear from you, for we have ships here every day from London.' The writer, who was in the legal profession says that there is little business on the island. He states that his mail should be sent to St Joseph's church. An early letter from the island. | £60.00 |
